Treat formative assessment as "a quick quiz after the lesson" and you will not use even half of its value. An assessment given after the fact is only scoring a lesson that has already gone by; it cannot change that lesson. By the time you hand the marked papers back the next day, both the students and the teacher have long since left that period behind. The real power of formative assessment is reading students' understanding while you are teaching and rerouting on the spot. Correcting your course mid-flight and evaluating the flight after landing are entirely different acts. The first prevents an accident; the second only records one. AI makes that "mid-flight correction" realistically possible. Because it tallies 30 responses within a minute, a teacher can decide the next step right there.
